On October 19th, I had the great opportunity of visiting the Murakami Suigun Museum on Oshima Island in Imabari City. The drive to the island itself was an hour an half ride, and the beautiful view of the ocean on the way itself was quite an experience. This chance to visit the island and learn about the various suigun (or feudal navy of the area) would not have been possible without the guidance of Iyokokorozashi Daigaku.

I had an extremely enjoyable time learning about the lives and culture of the people who lived on the main island, which incidentally was defended by strong water currents that protected them from pirates and invaders. Our group took a boat to the main island (Oshima) and had the chance to experience the strong water tides that vigorously pushed the boats. Once we landed on the island, a tour guide helped us around the island to show us the various areas where natives of the island used to inhabit. Although the island was no longer occupied, the tour guide was very informative in the way he helped us imagine the past livelihoods on the island. Touring the main island by foot, while hearing the helpful information from the tour guide, was very entertaining
!

Next, we proceeded to go to the Murakami Suigun Museum back on the main island of Imabari, where we had the chance of exploring the various exhibits. The exterior of the museum also resembled a fortress of some sort, reflecting the complex environment and prowess of the Murakami surname in the area. The relatively small museum was made up of three floors, and the main exhibits were on the second. The second floor exhibits consisted of boats, armor, weaponry and various cultural artifacts used on the islands. Being able to actually look at the various artifacts after having visited the island closely provided a very well-rounded experience. The whole tour guide and island visit came to an end as we ate our bento, provided by Iyokokorozashi Daigaku.

Imabari was a beautiful site to visit and I am very thankful to Iyokokorozashi Daigaku for inviting me to take part of this wonderful trip! I hope to participate in more trips in the future as well.

10月19日、今治市大島の村上水軍博物館を訪れるという素晴らしい機会を頂きました。松山から1時間半ほどの車での旅でしたが、海の景色がとてもきれいで、貴重な経験となりました。実際に大島を訪れ、村上水軍の様々なことを学ぶことができたのは、いよココロザシ大学さんの案内のおかげだと思っています。

村上水軍の本拠地である能島に住んでいた人々の暮らしや文化について学ぶことができ、とても楽しかったです。ちなみに、能島周辺は潮の流れが速く、それによって他の海賊や敵から守られています。私たちのグループはボートに乗って潮流体験で波に揺られながら、能島へ上陸しました。島に到着すると、博物館の学芸員の方が、かつての居住区など島全体を案内してくださいました。占領されていた頃の面影はないけれど、学芸員の方はとても詳細に当時の状況を教えてくださり、かつての生活を簡単にイメージすることができました。歩いて回ったのですが、学芸員さんの説明は分かりやすく、とてもおもしろかったです！

次に、大島へ戻り村上水軍博物館を訪れ、様々な展示品を観ました。博物館の外観は要塞に似ていて、入り組んだ状況と村上氏の繁栄を思わせるようでした。比較的小さな博物館は３階建てで構成されていて、主に２階に展示されていました。船や甲冑、兵器、様々な文化工芸品など、能島で使われていたものもありました。実際に能島を訪れた後だったので、とても親近感がわきました。いよココロザシ大学さんが準備してくださったお弁当を頂きました。

今治はとても美しいところで、この素晴らしい旅に招待してくださったいよココロザシ大学さんに感謝したいと思います。また参加させていただきたいと思います。
